How to use the spinning wheel
- Type or paste your entries in the box, one entry on each line. You can add up to 1,000.
- Give the wheel a title if you like. It shows above the wheel.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Enter on a Mac).
- When the wheel stops, a pop-up shows the result. Close it, spin again, or remove that entry and spin again.
The wheel updates as you type, so you see each change straight away. Your last wheel on this page is kept in your browser, so it is still there when you come back.
What people use it for
People use it as a wheel of names for a class, a prize wheel for a giveaway, or a quick way to settle a choice. For example:
- Picking a student to answer a question, or the order for presentations.
- Choosing who goes first in a game.
- Drawing a winner from a list of names for a giveaway.
- Settling small choices, like what to watch or where to eat.
- Handing out jobs, prizes or turns in a fair way.
Many of these have a ready-made wheel that loads with a sensible list you can edit, such as the yes or no wheel and the random name picker.
Make the wheel your own
Pick a colour set under Colours. Use the buttons under the list to shuffle the order, sort it from A to Z, remove repeated entries or clear it. Every change can be undone straight after with the Undo button.
If you add the same entry twice, it gets two slices, so it is twice as likely to come up. That is a simple way to give one choice more weight.
Keep track, save and share
Every result goes into the Results tab with the time it landed. Copy the whole list with one click, for example to paste into an email or a class record.
To keep a wheel for later, open the Saved tab and give it a name. Saved wheels live in this browser on this device. To show your wheel to someone else, press Share link. You get a link that holds the title, the entries and the colours, so anyone who opens it sees the same wheel.
Full screen for the classroom or a stream
Press Full screen to show a big wheel with big results. It works well on a projector, a smart board or a shared screen in a video call. Turn the tick sound on or off with the Sound button, and we remember your choice.
Is the wheel really random?
Yes. When you press Spin, the result is chosen by your browser's built-in cryptographic random number generator, the same kind of randomness used for security. Every slice has the same chance. The animation is then set to land on that result, at a random spot inside the slice, after a random number of turns.
Past results do not change future ones, so the same entry can come up twice in a row. If you want each entry to win only once, remove it after it is picked.
Your entries stay with you
There is no sign-up, and we do not upload your list. Your entries, saved wheels and results stay in your browser. A share link carries the wheel inside the link itself, in the part after the # sign, which browsers do not send to our server. Read more in our privacy policy.
